St Leonard’s Catholic School welcomes the provision of catch up funding for Sixth Form students. The 16 to 19 Tuition Fund is ring-fenced funding for schools who receive annual funding allocations from the ESFA for the provision of 16 to 19 education, to mitigate the disruption to learning arising from Coronavirus (COVID-19).
At St Leonard’s, this funding is primarily being used to provide small group and one-to-one tuition for 16 to 19 year olds who received a GCSE English and/or Mathemathics grade of 4 or below in the Summer. Although targetted students are identified based on their prior attainment in English and Mathematics, the funding can be used to support students in their learning across a variety of subjects.
It is our intention to provide additional support to small groups of students (3-5 per group), primarily before and after school, with some sessions planned for school holidays. One-to-one sessions are being offered where this is deemed necessary.
Targeted student intervention will be focused on students who have yet to achieve a grade 5 in English and/or Mathematics. Priority will be given to the most disadvantaged students, based on their socio-economic background, SEND status and volume of disruption to their learning.

Following ESFA rules, this funding will be allocated to support Year 12 students who did not attend school fully between the March commencement of lockdown and the start of term in September. As a result their preparation for sixth form study has been impaired and we welcome the possibility of providing extra support to students to ensure they have the same chance to fulfil their potential as in previous years. Funding will be directed, according to ESFA rules, in the first place to support students who have yet to achieve a grade 4 in Mathematics and English GCSE, and in the second place to support students who have attained a 4 in these subjects but who are yet to attain a 5 in at least one of them.
