St Leonard’s Catholic School is committed to the promotion of student leadership. The school council is chaired by the Head Boy and Head Girl and consists of elected representatives from each Tutor Group in the school. The Council meets on a regular basis to address various concerns and to make suggestions to the Head Teacher and Governing Body. Under the direction of the Deputy Head Teacher the council provides opportunities for the student voice to be heard and actions to be taken.
The Year Council
Each year you will have the opportunity to elect two members of your tutor group to represent you on the Year Council. These members will be elected using the AV (Alternative Vote) method. The Year Council is made up of 16 members
One member of the Year Council from LE, ON, AR and DS will be elected to represent you on the School Council, meaning each year group from Years 7 – 11 will have 4 representatives on the School Council.
The School Council consists of 20 members from years 7 – 11. Sixth Form members will also sit on the School Council. Meetings will be chaired by the Head Girl and Head Boy, with the Deputy Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy also in attendance and 4 House Captains, making the School Council a body of 28 students. Miss Blackie will also attend to respond to questions and take ideas to staff meetings.
It is important that you take your role seriously in electing your Council Representatives as they represent the Student Voice in St Leonard’s. Therefore you must use your vote thoughtfully, communicate with your representative before and after meetings, and visit the School Council Noticeboard for further information.
