This vision of the Music Department is to inspire and challenge pupils with a wide range of music from Bach to Bob Marley, which also includes the teaching of keyboard, composition and analysing music.
The staff of the Music department are Mr Gomez, Mr Grehan-Bradley and Mrs Hastie. We are also well served by the Durham Music Service: Mr Clark (guitar); Mr Hardy (drum kit); Miss Jones (upper strings); Mr Morgan (voice); Mr Pearson (brass); Mrs Roberts (woodwind); Mrs Shuttleworth (lower strings) and private teachers Mrs Boyd (keyboard) and Mr Johnson (electric guitar).
The focus of lessons is to develop an appreciation and understanding of music through a wide range of hands-on activities.
In order to present their wide range of knowledge, students are taught to absorb techniques through listening, which can be incorporated into their own compositions and performances, be this twelve bar blues, African drumming or Christmas carols.
