The vision of the Languages’ Department is to broaden and develop the minds of the pupils in St Leonard’s through learning French and German, which also includes the teaching of different cultures, values and traditions. The staff of the Languages’ department are fully committed to help every pupil reach their potential. We have a clear history of linguistic success at St Leonard’s and have high expectations of our classes. We believe that Languages are a key part of a broad and balanced education and encourage pupils to engage fully with what we offer. The focus of lessons is to ensure that every pupil can speak, listen, read and write in the foreign language. As pupils get older, this ability is strengthened and improved. We have a thriving A-Level uptake and every year we have several pupils who continue their language learning at universities across the country. In order to present their wide range of knowledge, students are taught how to communicate effectively in all four skills, allowing them to reach their full potential at GCSE, A-Level and beyond.
