The vision of the Geography Department is to provoke and answer questions about the natural and human worlds, , which also includes the teaching of different scales of enquiry to view the natural and human worlds from different perspectives. The staff of the Geography department helps students make sense of their physical and human surroundings and extend their knowledge and understanding to more distant places. They provide a context in which students can place local, national and international events enabling them to function more effectively as individuals and members of society. The focus of lessons is to develop an awareness of the contrasting opportunities and constraints facing people living in different places, under different physical and human conditions. In order to present their wide range of knowledge, students are taught how to engage in the process of geography to develop as effective and independent learners and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds. They develop their knowledge and understanding of geographical concepts and appreciate the relevance of these concepts to our changing world. They build a framework of spatial awareness in which to appreciate the importance of the location of places and environments from local to global. They develop an understanding of the significance of values and attitudes to the development and resolution of issues.
