The vision of the English Department is to explore, analyse and evaluate the power of words and wonder of stories, which also includes the teaching of rhetoric, narrative, speaking, crafting devices, pre twentieth and twentieth century texts, fiction and non-fiction. The staff of the English department believe in the importance of linking audience to purpose to form; in writing and speaking. We also believe in the importance of enjoying the subject and seeing its relevance in the everyday events and the wider world. The focus of lessons is allow children to think and to link. Reading and the enhancing of vocabulary is central to all lessons. In order to present their wide range of knowledge, students are taught to have a voice – both orally and in the written form. Hence, a varied diet of writing opportunities exist to aid this.
