The vision of the Art Department is to develop young people’s skill and dexterity in the use of visual language and create visually literate individuals who will make a contribution to the creative industries and develop a lifelong passion for the visual arts. Art and Design includes the teaching of painting, drawing, mixed media, collage, assemblage, sculpture, printmaking, photography and digital media. The staff of the Art department are specifically trained in the disciplines of Fine Art, Illustration and Photography and are all practitioners in their respective fields. They are highly motivated and have a passion for the visual arts. The focus of lessons is to provide opportunities to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences, environments and cultures in practical, critical and contextual forms. Allowing students to develop their strengths and interests further and the opportunity to explore their ideas both creatively and conceptually through a range of mediums. In order to present their wide range of knowledge, students are taught the essential technical skills required for proficiency in the various subject disciplines and encouraged to develop the breadth of creativity required in the creative industries.
